K-5 Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program
Dear K-5 Parents and Guardians,
McKenzie County Public School District #1 will be participating in a Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program for the 2024-2025 school year thanks to a state funded grant through North Dakota Department of Public Instruction. Schools participating include Badlands Elementary and Fox Hills Elementary. We will be offering fresh fruits and vegetables as a small sample to all K-5 students. The goal of the FFVP is to introduce children to fresh fruits and vegetables, to include new and different varieties, and to increase overall acceptance and consumption of fresh, unprocessed produce among children.
The goals of the fruit and vegetable program are as follows:
- Increase children’s fruit & vegetable consumption
- Create healthier schools
- Promote wellness
- Change children’s diets to affect their future health
We will be serving the fruits and vegetables weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students will have the choice of fruit or vegetable. Fruits and vegetables will only be served during the school day (i.e., not before school or during after school programs).
Thank you,
Becky Kaufman
